What is CELPIP?

 

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a comprehensive examination designed to evaluate individuals’ proficiency in the English language scored out of 12. Through the CELPIP Test, participants can showcase their capacity to operate effectively in English. The test gauges an individual’s English skills with clarity, accuracy, and precision across diverse real-life scenarios, including workplace communication with colleagues and superiors, social interactions with friends, comprehension of news broadcasts, and the interpretation and response to written materials.

Who needs CELPIP Results?

Having the CELPIP designation is beneficial for immigrants who wish to live in Canada as a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen. Scoring a 5 or higher in all components of the CELPIP General Test can grant skilled immigrants Express Entry to receive their Permanent Resident status. Similarly, if you haven’t studied English or French during post-secondary school, scoring 4 or higher in all components of the CELPIP General LS Test will pass the language requirements aspect of receiving Canadian Citizen status.

Our curriculum dedicates one week of preparation to each of the CELPIP General Test areas of examination: Writing, Speaking, Listening, and Reading. Our curriculum is broken down into four weeks:

Meet our Program Director - Wendy Morris

Wendy obtained a TESOL Diploma in 2011 to become an ESL Teacher and work with international language students and immigrants. She has worked at Vancouver International College, EF International Language Centre, MOSAIC, and Douglas College, among other schools.

Since 2018, she has prepared students for their IELTS, CELBAN, and CELPIP exams.*

She enjoys helping people to prepare for their CELPIP exams because this exam improves students’ current knowledge of English and everyday life in Canada. Through CELPIP preparation, students work towards their desired CELPIP score and gain a better understanding of the English language, pronunciation, and workplace culture in Canada.

CELPIP Test Details

 

CELPIP – General Test will be about 3 hours and is done in one sitting.

Listening: Listen to passages and answer questions (47-55 minutes)

Reading: Read passages and answer questions (55-60 minutes)

Writing: Respond to questions with written answers (53-60 minutes)

Speaking: Reply to on-screen verbal prompts (15-20 minutes)

CELPIP – General LS will be about 1h10m and is done in one sitting.

Listening: Listen to passages and answer questions (47-55 minutes)

Speaking: Reply to on-screen verbal prompts (15-20 minutes)
